Our Statement of Purpose

We truly care about the wellbeing of you and your family. We understand that family dynamics can be difficult at times. Together with the Family worker we are dedicated to supporting you and your family have that happy home life you hope for. It is possible!

The Family Safety Worker can help you achieve this by using a whole family-based approach that supports young people to change their behaviour within the context of their family. This approach is more likely to result in longer term change for the young person – by working with the young person and the family members to understand the reasons behind the violence and build strategies for resolving conflict and establishing trust.

To Be Eligible, The Young Person Must:

The program is available for young people aged 12-17 years and their families who are experiencing violence in the home.
Young people and their families can be referred to the Family Worker Program by:

  • Youth Justice if they are supervised, have a YJC or are on Bail Support
  • Police, Youth Liaison Officer, YAMS
  • DEC – Any educator in contact with the young person and family
  • Anyone in the community
  • Self referral or by family, friends etc

What is a Family Safety Worker?

A Family Safety Worker is a Domestic Family Violence worker. They are a specialised role that provide intensive family-based therapeutic support to young people and their family who are experiencing violence in the home.
Family Safety Workers will use a cultural, trauma informed, family systems approach to support young people and their families to:

  • Reduce violent and aggressive behaviours in the home
  • Improve safety and stability for all family members
  • Build or repair the young person’s positive
    relationships with parents, siblings and other family members
  • Increase parents’ confidence and skills
    escalating and collaborative problem solving
  • Reduce family stress, conflict, guilt and shame
  • Improve communication and family cohesion
  • Strengthen the young persons emotional well-being, communication and problem solving skills
