Barudir Youth Program

The word Barudir meaning Butterfly in Darkinjung language.

“As the caterpillar begins its struggle to break out of its cocoon to ultimately emerge as the beautiful creature intended. It must first go through the laborious and painful process of tearing away the walls of the thick protective cocoon. For this struggle removes the heavy liquid on its wings allowing it to fly faster, freer.”

The Barudir Project, was initiated through a small focus group of Aboriginal youth who identified 5 issues affecting their transition into adulthood. The project is designed to bring attention and create a platform that they would work on to develop a creative response and deliver their projects to other Aboriginal youth and the Darkinyung Aboriginal community.

The identified issues:

Staying engaged at school | Drugs & alcohol | Mental health | Healthy relationships | Teenagers & the law
